Thanks to grant funding from the Lake Erie Urban Waters Federal Partnership, in cooperation with Ohio Department of Natural Resources, there are two parks in the City of Defiance that will benefit from additional tree planting. Eastside Park and Bronson Park have both had many improvements in recent years, including shelter houses, a splash pad, playground equipment and walking trails. The installation of large canopy trees at each of these parks will provide not only the much anticipated shade we know large trees can provide, but also critical water quality benefits for the adjacent Auglaize River by reducing storm water runoff via canopy interception loss, transpiration, facilitating infiltration, and by coupling trees with other green infrastructure technologies such as the bioretention area at Eastside.
Trees at Bronson Park will be planted in the areas adjacent to the new walking path that connects the playground area and shelter houses in the wooded area at the rear of the park, with the splash pad and other fun amenities up front!
